And so, it begins. Oh wait, wrong start! *Ahem!*


09 October 2023, Athens, Greece – Maria Emmanuelle Arnidou, seasoned marketing communications professional specializing in the iGaming – and recently events – industry, is thrilled to announce the official launch of her Marketing Comms label, “Maria Emma Supercomms”.


Yes, I do appreciate the chance to feel like a music star and announce my “label” – because what do you really call a one-person business? An “Agency” certainly requires a team behind it. “Freelancer” on the other hand sounds kind of lackluster to me right now, since I want to fully celebrate the experience and expertise I bring to the table following a 20-year career: 10 years in retail sales (although I don’t advertise this as much, for reasons that I can share on another article, if you like), and a decade in digital marketing and communications. And so, the one-woman show must go on!


Maria Emma Supercomms in the Modern Marketing Landscape


Maria Emma Supercomms is a Creative Marketing Communications label offering a series of services form yours, truly (as if that wasn’t clear enough by the brand name 😎).


I market it as your Marketing Communications Virtual Assistant (VA) because this is “the gap” that I aspire to fill in the market. (Should I write “market” once more for the heck of it?? Oh, wait…).


Right now, regardless of how small or big of a company you are, there are numerous agencies for you to choose from, depending on where you are located, what specific services you are looking for, your budget, your target market etc. And that’s the no-brainer thing to do really, if you haven’t planned for in-house marketing, or don’t really care to bother with all that. But hiring an agency comes with a large-scale, possibly continuous collaboration and the corresponding costs for it. Of course, the majority of agencies have great teams of professionals – your business will be in good hands and the job will be done.


But often, this large-scale professional help comes at another cost on top of the monetary one: your company ending up “neglecting” the communications sector entirely, never learning how to promote your company / services or what it is that you need to communicate, how to establish a brand identity, a healthy, balanced work environment, how to nurture company culture, or handle internal crises; how to attract and retain talent and customers.


I know that some CEOs and business owners might be shocked to hear this (even nowadays), but marketing isn’t about unfounded one-time digital campaigns yelling “SALES!”. It certainly isn’t limited to the commercial side of your business. In fact, it is mostly about everything that comes before the “sales” part – your history and profile, your values and mission, how they form your brand and how they are communicated, their role and your influence in reaching out to people and building relationships.


If you start and continue your business journey always “hand-held” by a “big nanny agency”, you may end up never being forced to face the hot questions, to have a good, long look in the mirror to realise all the important groundwork you need to do first in order to identify your own identity - as an entity that is bound to target, approach, affect, connect and nurture people.
